Louis Saugy (1871-1953)
Louis Saugy was a Swiss mountain man from the Gstaad area (Saanenland).
He was from an economically stable family and enjoyed a formal
education. He became a postman in the Rougemont area. Inspired in part
by J-J Hauswirth and by the landscapes and farms he meandered through
delivering mail, Saugy recreated his beautiful world into colored and
b&w paper cutouts. Due to a severe loss of hearing, Saugy retired early
and took to the scissors until his death.
